It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway: In our house, we enjoy food.
We really, really do. We have no qualms or hang-ups or insecurities about sitting down (or even standing up) and eating something that is both healthy and tasty. There are very few things that are "off-limits" when it comes to our food. Artificial sweeteners. That's pretty much it.
We believe in moderation and healthy portion sizes, which is why we have no problem eating homemade french fries or flan or brown gravy or sauces made with white cream.
For every human, food is a part of our daily lives. The kinds of foods we eat define us individually and as a culture. For this reason, food is intimate, yet it is meant to be shared with others.
In our home, the kitchen is the busiest, warmest, loudest, happiest, and most occupied room. When Kyle comes home from work, he walks in the door and is automatically in the kitchen. When Jack wants to find me, he goes straight to the kitchen. We keep Sam's pack-and-play and bouncy seat in the kitchen, so he can be near me and near the warmth and smells of the kitchen.
We don't live to eat, nor do we simply eat to live. We eat what tastes good and have fun with it because we believe that having a healthy attitude toward food fosters healthy eating habits.
Because in the end, we believe that satisfying a healthy perspective about food is just as important as satisfying a healthy appetite.
